I grew up in the Alps, visiting both Austria and Switzerland over the summers, and skiing in them over the winters. I haven't been there in years, but with climate change on the rise, I have been anxious at home feeling dreadful that the places that I grew up watching, hiking in and admiring for so long will not be the same in a couple of years, let alone decades from now. The idea that I grew up skiing in these mountains, and that that might not be possible anymore so many years from now is just daunting. It feels so powerless too. Thank you for drawing attention to this.

Oh wow that brought up an old memory. My family vacationed in west Virginia national parks when I grew up, and my grandfather was born in a tiny coal mining town deep on the southern end of WV. When we were staying at Babcock at a log cabin I heard something outside at night. When I looked out the window I thought I saw like a big dog or deer close by. I went and told my grand father I saw something, he looked at me in the sternest voice he said "no, you didn't. Now close your window. " My mom said later it was because it might be a bear or something and he just didn't want me going outside at night to investigate. But now I don't know.

Thank you for this! I’ve never gotten to see the redwoods. Maybe one day. But I love seeing pictures and videos of them. I’ve never heard of this place. Completely fascinating! It’s sad that so many have to ruin that chance of seeing them for the rest of us. I wish they would of had the sense to stay back away from them and admire them from a distance. I can’t stand when anyone litters! Take your trash home with you to throw away or find a garbage can and use it. Our earth is not a garbage can or your personal dumpster! We have to respect nature.

I'd imagine that hot spots aren't more numerous under the sea, but that they are apparently more numerous under the sea. The reason being that oceanic crust is thinner than continental crust, which leads to the possibility of the hot spot breaking the surface.
